How do you get enough power to serve a volleyball over the net?

My toss is good but for some reason I lack power, I've seen girls half my size power that thing over the net, but when/if my ball gets over the net, it barely gets over (and I mean barely). So how do you serve with more power. How do you get enough power to serve a volleyball over the net?
Probably, its not that you don't have the power. You just aren't using your body to really get the ball over.

It's a start that your toss is good.

When you serve, (if you're right handed), your left foot should be forward, with your weight on the right leg. The ball should be in your left hand. You angle your body off at 45 degrees. Then, draw your hitting arm back. Make sure you open up your body too. Your shoulders shouldn't be squared with the net. Your elbow has to be high, and make sure you draw your arm back as far as you can. Then hold the ball in front of you, and toss it.

You said that you had a good toss, but I'll just remind you of some things, just in case. A good toss isn't too in front of you, or behind you either. Think of it this way- when you're trying to punch a person in the face, it's harder to punch them if you're standing too far away. It's also hard to punch them when you have to reach all the way back.

The toss shouldn't be too high. It should hang in the air for a split second before you contact it.

So after you toss it, transfer your weight to your left foot (take a step with the left foot), and then contact the ball. Make sure your hand is OPEN and strong. Don't close up your hand.

If your ball keeps going into the net, try a little higher toss, or try contacting it at a higher point. If your ball really actually doesn't even get to the net, you're either doing something wrong, or really need to get working on those push ups! Make sure your wrist is straight and stiff. Pretend like there is a board tied to it and you cant bend it. I too had a lot of trouble with my serve, also make sure you fully swing and follow through
I always tell my girls to have a firm wrist. Along with a firm wrist you need to have a fast swing to the ball. This will give you more power behind the ball. Make sure your point of contact in not too low this can also cause the ball to not go over the net
the best I can give you is make sure you toss is good( in front a little more than arms length in the air)

make sure your whole hand hits the ball at it's highest point in the air to your reach

or you can simply work out your arms more
I used to have the same problem with my serving. What you want to do is to make sure you are doing is swinging straight down and not across your body. What also helps is if your toss is really high, it gives you a big chance to miss it, and if it is too low, an even greater chance to miss it. You want to toss it so it is about a foot to a foot and a half above your reach so it comes in contact with your hand at the perfect time. Also when you're tossing, make sure to not have a bet arm, you want to keep your arm straight out so when you toss the ball it stays in front of you and not behind you. If it does go behind you, you will most likely reach backwards, which makes you look up more instead of across, which makes the ball go really high and it might not make it over the net. I hope this helped.
I had the same trouble last year when i was on the team for my school.

My coach recommended that i lift small weights and do push ups and such, to strengthen my upper arms.

Best of luck!

Next time you go to the court, I want you to do this:

Pick up the ball and just throw it over the net. Just throw it overhand. If it goes over you have enough power but your form is incorrect. If it doesn't go over, work on your strength. (Go to the gym, lift weights, practice, etc.)
all of the above are good answers. but dont forget to use you opposite arm to track the ball (very well stressed in club vball). be sure your opposite foot is in front of you. serving arm straight and firm. hands spread wide apart %26amp; swing. use your wrist too if it helps.

lift 5 pound weights, it helps.

good luck :)
You hit the volleyball with the heel of you hand and when you hit the ball snap you wrist oyea and hit at highest point
Try to throw the ball over the net and you'll understand. That's what I did.
If you can learn to take a controlled step through the ball, then you can use your weight. I taught at the middle school level for a couple of years. There kids can only get the ball over using their entire body weight. Also, strengthen your shoulder. On your days off, practice throwing a basketball against a wall. Use 2 hands and then just 1 arm. It will make a VB feel like a feather.
the most important thing is to move your elbow REALLY far back. thats where all your power comes from, your shoulder and elbow extension. i had the exact same problem as you.
serve with the flattest part of your hand
